Mobile imaging demand is on the rise. When choosing a mobile imaging provider to work with, here are four questions to consider.

1. What type of mobile service provider do you need?

When it comes to choosing a mobile imaging provider, there are two main options. The first is as-needed. Just as the name states, these providers come into your facility when you request them to take images. The second is an on-site provider. They are contracted and stationed at your facility for a set number of days and hours each week. On-site providers are best when you have a high imaging demand. They are also useful for frequent access to imaging or to hold clinics for imaging services. Either way, make sure your provider guarantees a backup if your regular technician gets sick or goes on vacation. You don’t want to get stuck without someone when you need images taken.

2. Equipment transportation process and fees

Mobile imaging providers bring their equipment when they travel sites. Providers will bill different amounts for this with some will charge standard approved transportation fees only while others will charge patients an additional transportation fee. This additional fee can make a big change in the overall amount patients are charged.

3. Who is billed for imaging services provided?

You’ll want to find out if the provider will charge your facility or your patient’s directly. Some providers can do either and will give you the option. Other providers will have a set billing protocol in place. If your facility doesn’t want the responsibility of distributing bills to patients, collecting payment and being held liable for unpaid medical bills, it’s important to answer this question before entering into a contract with a service provider.

4. How are service and results requested?

Find out both how to request imaging service and how to collect results. At Palm Diagnostics, your doctor can simply fax a script or give us a call to set up service and we will be there right away. We have a patient portal for you to access results. They are always provided within a two hour window because we know how important medical results are. You’ll want to make sure the company you work with has enough radiologists on staff to handle requests as they come in.
