Kick off the new year with a bang
For many people, a new year means a fresh start. It’s a chance to wipe the slate clean and start over. The year 2020 was particularly challenging for many people. As 2021 takes off, here are a few ideas to help you kickoff the new year with a bang. You’ll feel better, look better and ultimately do better.
1. Create a vision board
Use a vision board to help you picture and map out your next year. A complete vision board with photos gives you a comprehensive list to focus on in any given year. It’s a great way to reflect on the previous year and set goals for the next year. You can also use vision boards on a larger scale to map out your 5, 10 and 20 year goals. Huff Post suggests that your vision board can be for personal use or for your whole family. Print your vision board out and put it somewhere you’ll see often as a constant reminder of what you’re focused on in the new year.
2. Start an exercise routine
A renewed focus on fitness is usually at the top of many peoples’ new year’s resolutions. Find a new program that both challenges and excites you. Choose an awesome soundtrack to pump you up while you exercise. Decide on a schedule and stick to it. Hold yourself accountable with a workout buddy. Whatever you decide on, stick with it!
3. Ditch unhealthy food
You may have heard the phrase “you can’t outrun a bad diet.” Exercise and diet go hand-in-hand. If you make the effort to workout, go the extra step and work on your diet also. You don’t have to be super strict but you can choose to eliminate unhealthy foods from your everyday diet.
4. Prioritize a healthy work-life balance
Mental health plays a huge role in how we feel on a daily basis. It’s easy to wrap yourself up in how many emails you can send or how many meetings you can squeeze into a day but studies show that a healthy work-life balance is critical for long term happiness. According to Mental Health America, stress weakens your immune system and makes you more susceptible to sickness. In fact, chronic stress doubles your risk of a heart attack! A healthy work life balance makes you happier and in need of less sick days.
5. Make yourself a priority
To make yourself a priority you have to listen to your internal dialogue. Focus on self care such as meditating when you feel stressed or taking a break to go for a walk after sitting for a long period at work. Learn to say no to activities you don’t want to do. Be aware of yourself and when you are too busy. For additional tips to make yourself a priority, check out this Huff Post article here.
